Adaptive systems
Software that changes what it shows, asks, or recommends based on how each person is doing. We design the adaptation and the interface together, so the system's behaviour makes sense to the person using it.
AMO Research and Development is a tools company. We build adaptive systems and data-driven AI models that fit software to each person who uses it, for thousands of people at once.
Expertise
Focus
Software that treats people as individuals, engineered so it still works when everyone arrives at once.
Software that changes what it shows, asks, or recommends based on how each person is doing. We design the adaptation and the interface together, so the system's behaviour makes sense to the person using it.
Models that learn from real usage which kind of support works, for whom, and when. Each one is tested against a simpler baseline before it reaches people.
Tools for teaching and learning that match support to where each student is, in a class of thirty or a course of three thousand.
Engineering for adaptive products that must stay fast, reliable, and affordable as they grow from a pilot to a full rollout.
Approach
Our team comes from research in AI, human-computer interaction, and educational technology. We build products the way we run studies, with evidence at every step.
We start with how people learn and work. Methods from human-computer interaction show where adaptation helps and where it gets in the way.
We build models from real usage data and keep them as simple as the problem allows.
We put working software in front of people early, while changes are still cheap to make.
We evaluate with real users in real settings, and the results shape the next version.
Team
Two co-founders and a technical team that pairs academic research with professional software development.
Co-Founder and Head of Research
Michael is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, at the University of Toronto Mississauga, where he co-directs the CORE Lab. His research covers computing education, applied AI and machine learning, adaptive educational technologies, data systems, and algorithms.
Co-Founder and Head of Operations
Angela is an Assistant Professor in Computing and Software at McMaster University and co-directs the CORE Lab. Her research combines computing education and human-computer interaction to design intelligent educational technologies.
Lead Developer
Marko is a University of Toronto computer science alumnus with a professional background in full-stack development. He contributed to QuickTA, an LLM-powered tutoring system for computer science courses.
Contact
We work with institutions, product teams, and researchers who need software that adapts to the people using it.
